Explanation of equations - easy, exciting or exceptionally difficult to solve?

By the time primary pupils get to key stage two, they will start to encounter problems and calculations involving algebra. Here is an example of a question involving key stage two algebra. Suitable for year 5, year 6 or year 7 maths pupils (and their parents or carers). Here is the solution to the problem:

2a + 5 = 85

Did you get the correct answer? I hope so! It's better to explain your method and show your working if you're trying these types of problems for the first time.
